Windows XP is now 12 years old and Microsoft are going to ‘end of life’ the operating system on 8th April 2014. This means that computers running on Windows XP will continue to run after 8th April but they will no longer receive the Microsoft security updates.

The lack of updates will potentially leave Windows XP machines open to many forms of security risks. This could lead to malware infection, data corruption or data theft.

Our advice is to migrate any PCs onto a new operating system, like Windows 8, before April 8th 2014. In many cases the XP PCs will be very old and will probably need to be swapped for a new PC. Most current PCs come with Windows 7 or Windows 8 pre-installed.

Microsoft is also stopping support for Office 2003 on April 8th, again these installations should be upgraded to a newer Office version (currently Office 2013).
